I just had sex for the first time. My bf used condoms, but I'm still freaked out about getting pregnant. Can you calm me down?

Indeed I can. You did everything right - you used a condom.

When used correctly, condoms are 99.99% effective. To use effectively, your boyfriend should have put on the condom before you had sex and ejaculated while he was still wearing it.

Since I started becoming sexually active many moons ago, I’ve always used condoms, and I’ve never had a pregnancy scare.

If the condom did break, both of you would know it as he’d be able to feel it and you’d be able to see once he took it off. If this ever happens, either of you should march over to your local pharmacy and get the Plan B emergency contraceptive for about $25-$40. I’m not sure what the laws are in your state, but in most it seems if you are over 17, then you can get it without a prescription or a parent’s permission. You can also go to Planned Parenthood for any help.

If you plan on having sex regularly, I would also recommend getting on some form of birth control - whether it be the ring, pill, or shot. Taking that and using condoms will certainly put you at ease and also prevent pregnancy even more than condoms alone.

In closing, welcome to the world of the deflowered. May you continue to have a wonderful, fun, and safe sex life.
