Well, I didn’t create the laws, so I can’t answer why killing a pregnant women is double homicide. I think it might stem from the notion that all pregnant women are “delicate.” Apparently the ruling is pretty rare, but that information is from Wikipedia, so you never know.
I can understand your opinion that only “wanted” fetuses are considered alive. After all, abortions are for unwanted pregnancies, so that statement makes sense.
Here’s my defense of the living cells argument. The living cells in our body aren’t living people, and neither is a fetus. I also think this argument is a bit of a stretch and not exactly relevant. To me, it’s like saying removing a kidney for transplant is murder since it’s a “living” part of the human body.
I appreciate your wanting to understand the other side. I hope my two cents helps you interpret where I stand.
