Ashely (ashleyinmotion.tumblr.com) left an amazing comment to a recent pro-choice post of mine, and I wanted to share it with ya’ll. You don’t hear first hand accounts of women who have had an abortion that often, so I thought her words were worth sharing.
I don’t think an anonymous image and heartbeat will do much to deter a woman seeking an abortion. However, should one see and hear their OWN child, that may sway the opinion. I myself have had an abortion. For a while I regretted it. I hated myself for a year. I went to see a counselor because I was so depressed about it. I am in nursing school and have seen a sonogram, heard a fetal heartbeat, and witnessed three live births….and even after all that i still would have done what I did because was the right decision for myself and my situation at that time. I was 19, in college, 100 miles away from my support system, and in a relationship that would never had lasted the duration of the pregnancy. The day my right as a woman to determine what I want and need to do with my body is revoked will be a sad day indeed.
