I watched Ken Burn’s Prohibition documentary, and part 3 made me fall in love with The New Yorker columnist Lois Long. She wrote about New York’s speakeasies under the pen name “Lipstick” and used her anonymity to her advantage. Long chronicled the flapper culture of drinking with men and staying out all night, while also utilizing sassy tongue-in-cheek sexual innuendo. She summarized her life with the phrase, “Tomorrow we may die, so let’s get drunk and make love.”
